Clad in a motorcycle helmet and bent on a murder spree, a rogue gunman executed four people on Monday at a Jewish school in Toulouse, France. More chilling details emerged a day later when French authorities said that the gunman was apparently strapped with a video recorder, trolling the grounds at the Ozar Hatorah school, picking off children with cold efficiency, filming the grisly acts from his own morbid point of view.
Cornering an eight year old girl outside in the courtyard, his gun jammed. Gripping her hair, he produced another weapon, and fired it, killing her instantly.
“That someone could dehumanize children to this point,” said Nicole Yardeni, a director of a prominent Jewish association, in her comments to the NYT’s, “is unbearable.”
After watching the surveillance footage captured by the school’s security system, Yardeni and others were shocked by what they saw,
“He shot at everything he could see, children and adults, and some children were chased into the school,” said local prosecutor, Michel Valet in his statement to the NYT’s.
In all, three children and one adult were slain; victims of a single gun shot to the head. He never took off his helmet.
Seung-Hui Cho recorded his own confession on video, and mailed it to NBC news before gunning down 33 victims in the 2007 Virginia Tech. massacre.
The “Craig’s List Killer,” advertised online for his prey. Before that, in 2005, Joseph Duncan slaughtered a family of five in Idaho, and documented his state of mind during the events leading up to it on his blog, “Blogging the Fifth Nail,” and now, this.
In the age of the Internet, even vicious killers want their 15 links.
